A House for Art
Affectionately referred to as a “new-old house” - one that is styled after a classic New York townhouse - but appropriately planned for a typical city-sized lot in an established neighborhood. The highly detailed exterior and interior were designed to reflect an age of proud craftsmanship, with custom brick detailing, interior mouldings and millwork; high ceilings; and fine finishing inside-and-out. This home illustrates a unique example of exceptionally built residential architecture, amidst a glut of cookie-cutter new builds found everywhere.
The homeowners are a young professional couple with two school-age children, who appreciate the classically detailed surroundings of the grand houses they both grew up in, but with a more urban sensibility. With an incredible art collection to display, the layout ensured rooms were organized to permit the viewing of artwork from multiple perspectives. The contemporary white palette provides a gallery-like aesthetic, while the custom mouldings provide a shadow line detail on the walls and ceilings.
